Mentaliti Macam Binatang!
I have a nasty feeling that when I write in English, my articles never tak dapat sambutan.. hahaha.. jadi, hari ini saya kembali menulis dalam bahasa Melayu, walaupun saudara saya Adz Pa'odz (hahaha) mendakwa bahawa apabila saya menulis dalam bahasa Melayu, saya seperti seorang rakyat Indonesia. Barangkali ya donk..
Minggu pertama bulan Julai penuh dengan jerebu. Pening.
Hati saya berkata: Bodoh punya perempuan!!
Akal saya berkata: Mentaliti macam binatang!!
Huh!

Sincerity
Peace everyone!
What a week. I can't believe that June has passed and July had dawned like days ago! How fast time flies! The first few days of July was calm and less stressful. I'd like to welcome to our company a new member; Madam Wan Aisyah, who has graciously joined us last Monday. May God provide her guidance and motivation in performing her duties. I am very excited that she had consented to join and it is my pleasure to have her as my partner. I look forward to a long, fruitful and enjoyable tenure in the company.
I was called upon to write about the topic of sincerity. This topic is written in English because my brother Mr. Muadz Abd Rahman said that when I write in Malay, it reads like Indonesian rather that Malaysian Malay. I guess that if I write (or speak ) in English, it will come across as being more intellectual (?). I honestly believe that if you have the right substance, it will come across as intellectual, no matter in whatever language.
The buzz this week was about giving admonition. I believe that giving advice is like giving a very bitter medicine. The trick is not only to give the right pills for the right sickness, but also to give the correct medicine for each particular patient. A patient that suffers from a heart disease, a doctor might suggest the usage of digitalis to makes the heart contract harder and is used when the heart's pumping function has been weakened; it also slows some fast heart rhythms. It may apply to general cases of heart attacks, and may be effective, but this medicine might not work on other patients with heart disease. Some may require the use of ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor that stops the production of a chemical that makes blood vessels narrow and is used to help control high blood pressure and for damaged heart muscle. It may be prescribed after a heart attack to help the heart pump blood better. It is also used for persons with heart failure, a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to supply the body's needs. Not all heart diseases can be cured by using one single medication, you see.
Alamak, dah jadi medical science article plak~ melalut lagik.
The point being here that I have learned is that; the same medicine for the same disease might not work on all patients. As it goes for giving advice, the same advice for a particular thing might not work on everyone. To each is their own personality, as the Malays always say, tailor your dress to your own body, so when giving advice, we must give advices according to the character and personality of the person - that is if you want your advice to be accepted-.
Abu Ruqayya Tamim bin ‘Aws ad-Dari relates that the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Religion is Sincerity.”
We asked: “To whom, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said: “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, and the leaders of the Muslims and to the common Muslim.”
[Sahih Muslim]
Sincerity here means giving of advice. The religion Islam itself are advices. It is the best advice we can get anywhere in the world. These advices come in the most beautiful string of words, written down beautifully to be narrated also beautifully. The Holy Koran is full of beautiful advices. ^^
Today, as I wondered in the beautiful realm called ''Internet'', I have found many articles relating to this matter. One that captivated me was the "Ethics in Giving Advices". It was written so (again for the lack of better vocabulary) beautifully to guide us to the best ways of giving advices, so that our advices are not thrown away in vain.
1. It should be in secret, i.e., one should advise in secret not in public so as not to embarrass the person.
2. Advice should be given in a kind and gentle manner.
3. The advisor should explain to the person his wrongdoing and support his stance with proofs from Shari`ah.
4. To provide counsel with the purest of hearts. Free from ill-intention such as riya' or pride.
5. Advise in the wisest manner. Take time to figure what is the best way to advise a person. Advise with love and be part of them. Try to understand what is the source of why they have become like so.
6. (I think this is most important) To provide them time so that they would slowly change and better themselves. Try not to urge them to change immediately, and do not use force as it might make them lose interest in changing. It should come naturally.
Therefore, if you abide by these ethics, people will accept your advice. If they do not accept, Allah will reward you for your sincere efforts in advising people.
Advice, in fact, is a must in Islam, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, says: “Religion is founded upon (sincere) advice.” And: “Whoever sees a wrong, should change it by his hand, if he is not able to do so, let him do so by his tongue, and if he is not able to do so, let him do so by his heart, and the latter is the slightest of faith.”
